Mental Health, CTE, Concussions, Depression, & The Junior Seau Suicide Discussion With Terry Russell of NAMI Ohio & Brian Engelman On “The Unhappy Hour”.

On our Friday 05_04_12 episode of “The Unhappy Hour” sports show, we spoke with Terry Russell, Executive Director of NAMI Ohio, (National Alliance on Mental Illness).

We discussed his 40 years of mental health work & focused our attention on star NFL linebacker, Junior Seau’s suicide earlier this week.

We also talked about how Cleveland felt & acted when LeBron James left town, & how generations of Cleveland sports fans have carried around disappointment due to decades of near-championships & failure after failure.

Terry said, “There is unfortunately still a stigma associated with major depression & mental illness for some people, but these are physical problems like heart disease or cancer, not character flaws. 1 in 5 families are effected by mental illness.”

Thoughts on the Browns Preseason game vs. Philadelphia Eagles 08_25_11

Thoughts on the Cleveland Browns preseason game vs. Philadelphia Eagles 08_25_11
– Colt McCoy threw a great 35 yard pass that was dropped by Evan Moore with 3 1/2 minutes left in the 1st quarter.
– Colt McCoy threw a great 45 yard bomb to Terry Robiskie in the first quarter that was nullified by a pass interference call.
– There was a pick on the 1st play of the 2nd quarter, and that was unfortunate.
– #39 Quinn Porter looks pretty good.
– I see good players, good coaching, & good plays. What the Browns need is fewer “average & bad plays”,…but I see a potential playoff team here (if the ball bounces the right way).
– D’Quell Jackson BLASTED Michael Vick on a clean hit with 8 1/2 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. The delayed rush was fantastic. For some reason Jackson was called for “roughing the passer”. The hit was completely clean. This nullified the interception on the play. The game could have turned out quite differently if this lousy call never happened.
– If Michael Vick can run like a running back, then he needs to be hit like a running back is hit. A few plays later, Vick ran and got a rushing touchdown.
– There was good pressure on Michael Vick in this game.
– Who is the special teams coach? There was a blocked field goal, there was a fumble on the punt return.
Looking forward to the regular season.

GO BROWNS!!!!
