Post Keys to Victory: Browns vs. Texans

Well guys, the second part of the buzzsaw that is the Browns' schedule over the last two weeks is here, and the Browns will have their hands full with the Houston Texans this weekend. First, let's look at what went wrong on Sunday versus the Niners:

1.) We didn't keep their defense guessing at all. Since Quinn (oops! I mean McCoy) can't throw deep, they jammed the box and we had nowhere to run. The four yard throws don't mean jack when you can't counterbalance them with a few thirty yarders. If I remember correctly, we had one twenty some yarder to Watson, and the one TD pass to Cribbs. Besides that, heavy pressure, heavy hits, and heavy sack numbers for the Niners against Frye (oops, I did it again...I mean McCoy).

2.) Hillis wasn't back...offense suffered. Nuff said.

3.) Defensively, we did a great job in the second half. But San Fran was able to use a dominant first half to ride out the rest of the game, and truthfully, we were, once again, never in this one.

Onto the Texans, and likely more of the same:

1.) Tighten your chinstraps, D-Fence: If we couldn't stop Gore, we're in deep doodoo trying to stop the three headed dragon that is the Houston offense. They have arguably two of the top five offensive players in the game in Arian Foster and Andre Johnson, three of the top fifteen if you throw in QB Matt Schaub, and Johnson is supposed to be back and rarin' to go after a hammy kept him out for a few weeks. Get ready, Haden! I listened to an interview with Foster the other day, and I was pleasantly surprised by what an astute, intelligent individual he is. Not only does he have the physical tools to be an elite running back in the NFL, but he has the mental acumen to handle whatever a defensive coordinator might throw at him. We're in trouble.

2.) Shurmur needs to re-evaluate his offensive style: The best coaches in any sport, much less the NFL, know that you need to adapt your offense to fit your players. It is obvious that McCoy's two best traits are throwing on the run and operating a no-huddle offense. He is getting swallowed inside a porous offensive line, and until Hillis is back healthy and effective, the game is going to continue to be on Colt's shoulders. The fans and the local media are clamoring for an early no-huddle attack. Supposedly, it's a slap in the face to true West-Coast coaches, but who cares? Do what works, and maybe put up a touchdown before the last five minutes of a game.

3.) Evan Moore--Missing in Action: Why isn't this guy getting the ball more? If we have no receivers, why isn't he lining up in the slot more often? If we have no playmakers, why not put a guy who was identified as a core playmaker in the preseason in the game? This guy should be on the field for a minimum of two of every five plays. If he's such a mismatch nightmare, USE HIM!

Final Prognosis: Is there any way they can win this game? Sure, if all the stars align in our favor. Will they win this game? Unfortunately, it's not bloody likely. Texans 24-7. A nice garbage time touchdown is all we get again until the coaches figure out that we need to modify things to suit this team.

Aaawwwww, come on. McCoy can throw deep, he just needs a running game to keep the defense balanced. Hell, we cut Brian Robieske today. Lots of changes in the first year under Shurmer.

I'm not ready to throw in the towel on Kelly Holcomb,...I mean Colt McCoy just yet!

"It is obvious that McCoy's two best traits are throwing on the run and operating a no-huddle offense." I couldn't agree any more!

Hell, I drafted Evan Moore in my fantasy league, and had to drop him cause they aren't looking for him for some reason!

I pick the Browns 24-17.

A Browns win vs. Houston is unlikely, says Murray.
