Post Keys to Victory: Browns vs. Rams

The blues are officially in full force in Browns country. Let's be honest, it never gets easier, but we have to be used to this feeling by now. It's the same crap every year. About last week's game vs. the Texans:

1,2,3: If you looked at my three keys to victory, I was right on all three counts. They had absolutely no answer for Arian Foster, or backup Ben Tate, for that matter. Shurmur stubbornly continues to operate the same offensive style without any tweaks. Evan Moore is a nobody at this point. Nuff said.

Onto a supposedly winnable game against the Rams:

1.) They have a better offense, and have played a tougher schedule than us: The only thing we have on the Rams is that Bradford has been, shockingly, knocked down even more than McCoy. Besides that, they do have a legitimate pro-bowl back in Stephen Jackson, someone who's been more than a one hit wonder (Hillis, anyone?). They also traded for a legitmate #1 receiver in Brandon Lloyd, who has stepped in immediately as a leader and a playmaker for the team. The Rams have played the Eagles, Cowboys, Packers, Saints, Giants, Ravens, Cardinals, and 'Skins. With the exception of the last two, all of the other teams are playoff contenders or at least were thought to be at some point so far. The last two games have been the best two teams we've played. Thank God we had the Fins and Colts earlier. The Rams beat New Orleans, and could be in line to give us another whoopin.

2.) Someone, anyone, I mean ANYONE, please play offense: This offense stinks, and no one is stepping up to make it better. We are absolutely no better off than we were during Mangini's first season, where Josh Cribbs was playing wildcat a significant amount of time by the end of the season. Guess what reporters in Cleveland are calling for? Yup, Cribbs in the backfield. It may be a short term solution, but this team still has long term problems. I have come to accept the fact that this team can't win with McCoy. He may be a great guy and a hard-nosed competitor, but he doesn't have the physical tools to survive in a cold weather city where a hard-throwing QB is the only answer for a relentless pass rush that we will face from every other team in the AFC North. Sorry Colt, I like you a lot, and maybe I am still wrong, but I think we need to seriously consider a first round QB.

3.) If we did have an offense, we could score on this team: In six of the eight games the Rams have played, the Rams have given up 20+ points. Have the Browns scored 20 points yet in a game? I think so...maybe against the Colts! Anyway, the defense of the Rams is in shambles right now, but so is the Browns' offense, so maybe it's just a wash!

Final prognostication: My dad has tickets to this game, and I have tickets to Jacksonville next week, so I'm going to try to be a little more positive. Browns win 10-7. Another 50 yard field goal by Dawson to ice it in the last minute. By the way, everyone is making a huge deal about Dawson kicking these 50 yarders, but no one is mentioning the fact that it's because he has no other choice because they never get any closer than 50 yards away. I'm just a negative Ned today, I guess. Go Browns!

Evan Moore was great in preseason, he was resigned to a contract extension, then he disappears from our offense. This makes zero sense to me.
Stephen Jackson is a stud, and he will certainly test our run defense yet again.
I have not decided that the Browns cannot win with McCoy.
The guy has no run blocking or pass blocking (the loss of Steinbach earlier in the year cannot be minimized. It has crippled this offensive line somehow).
I can't judge a Quarterback without a decent line.
Also, Peyton Hillis, Brandon Jackson & Montario Hardesty are all injured (or faking injuries while negotiating a contract extension).
It's hard to gauge a Quarterback's skill in a one dimensional offensive scheme. If you can't run the ball, the opposing defense can really tee off on an offense. McCoy needs help.
Also, we cut Brian Robieske 2 weeks ago. This guy was picked in the second round, and he's gone. MoMass has a concussion problem, and we have no playmaking receivers on offense (except for the occasional spark from Josh Cribbs). A Quarterback needs people to throw to, or he can't be judged.
My prediction: Browns 31-14.
(I'm just the eternal optimist I guess)
