The Horror At Sandy Hook

A week ago today, after a three week hiatus, I returned to this blog with an intent to take a new, non-political direction with my posts. After Obama’s re-election, I felt that to continue to dwell on America doubling-down on stupid would serve no constructive purpose for the time being.

For three full weeks I waited for something positive to come to me and still had nothing positive to say. I finally returned with a quick post sharing some honest, well-intentioned Marriage Advice and a tongue-in-cheek post about the Final Week on Earth. I was purposefully avoiding the news feeds and had no idea the scope of the horror that had happened in Newtown earlier that day.

In retrospect, when I finally caught wind of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, after the initial shock and incomprehension, it felt like I’d just posted something along the lines of grandma’s favorite recipe for peach cobbler on the day of the attacks on the Twin Towers, so completely oblivious that I was to the great tragedy that had just occurred.

A week after evil visited that community, what can I possibly add here that hasn’t already been thought and felt by any loving parent and caring human being?

For those who lost loved ones, for those who lost children in the full flower of their innocence, we can only imagine the heartache. For the parents of the survivors, we can only imagine their resulting loss of faith in humanity and what they will have to deal with in helping to guide their children forward from a day they will never forget. For the children who survived we can only imagine the ways in which they will be forever changed after that day.

It’s probably a good thing I didn’t allow myself to react on Sandy Hook here until today. While my emotions in commiserating the tragedy would have been heartfelt, my commiseration would ultimately have ended up as a prelude to the political angle, perhaps nothing as blatant as Democrat Congressman Jerrold Nadler laying out his agenda by saying the opportunity for gun control “will be there if the president exploits it,” but left to my way of seeing all things through the lens of politics, my response would have been unseemly nonetheless.

With the tragedy now a week behind, Dr. Charles Krauthammer has added his thoughts on Sandy Hook, and in the spirit of leaving it up to others to tackle the politics, I share with you his article on “the roots of mass murder.”

While most columnists were almost immediate to leap to the conclusion you know they had already come to long before Sandy Hook, hammering away at their chosen angle the way you would expect a left-winger or a right-winger to do, the brilliance of Krauthammer in his piece is how even-handedly he looks at all three issues regarding the Second Amendment, imposing mental health treatment for those who might refuse it and the way the right of free speech has fostered a desensitized Hollywood / video game culture in which, especially for the generation coming of age, can make mass murder seem like nothing to even shrug your shoulders over. His piece couldn’t be any more even-handed in the way he deals with the effort to strike a balance between liberty and public safety.

Once you’ve gotten past the abject horror of Sandy Hook, Krauthammer’s piece is well worth the read and thoughtful consideration.

Why Don’t More Defend Both Economic Liberty And Personal Liberty?

{Editor’s Note: This is the 26th installment of a series of articles attempting to address the 32 questions posed by Ron Paul in his recent farewell speech given in front of Congress. Check out the previous installment, “Why Do Some Members Defend Civil Liberties But Not Free Markets?”}

If you’ve been following our series of articles attempting to answer all of Ron Paul’s 32 questions, by now you’ve probably noticed a few common themes. This is no coincidence, just as it was no coincidence that Ron Paul asked some very pointed questions in his farewell speech in order to point out logical inconsistencies in the way the role of government is viewed in our society. One prevailing theme is the acceptance of government monopoly on violence, and how this has caused many of the problems we see in our society today.

This monopoly on violence allows the State to chip away at both the personal and economic liberty of individuals through passage of legislation which ignores individual rights in favor of the “greater good” of the collective of society. Of course, when they say “society”, what they really mean is “The State”. There is no such single entity known in the world known as “society”. Society is just a collection of individuals, but the State has hijacked the word to represent itself. And virtually all politicians, sans Ron Paul, are Statists.

Don’t like paying taxes? “Well it’s your duty to society”, the Statists cry. Not a fan of wars? “Well you need to support the troops anyway, Anarchist. They are fighting for your freedom,….society’s freedom!” These are common Statist arguments, along with my favorites “Who will build the roads???” and “Well then why don’t you go live in Somalia if you hate government so much??”.

No matter which illogical argument used by the Statist, they are all ultimately saying the same thing: the liberty of you, the individual, is a secondary concern if it’s any concern at all. Sure, you’ll get some Republicans acting like they believe in free markets, some Democrats acting like they believe in civil liberties, and yet rarely if ever will anyone advocate for both.

So, Why Don’t More Defend Both Economic Liberty And Personal Liberty?

We’ve discussed before how changing the party in power never changes policy. This is by design. The actors in the Republican vs. Democrat play are there to simply play their roles, and make their audience “root” for one side or the other. Those that lean one way will see their side as the “good guys” and the other side as the “bad guys”. If you’re into free markets, the Republicans are your heroes. If you’re all for perceived civil liberties like gay marriage and abortion, the Democrats are your homies.

Just like with professional wrestling, it doesn’t really matter if the “good guy” or the “bad guy” wins. All that matters is that is that the fans show up and have an emotional reaction. This emotion is what keeps “butts in the seats” and keeps the money flowing. Politics isn’t much different. The emotional reactions elicited by the grand “debate” between both sides keep voters coming to the booth, keeps the charade going, and keeps the money flowing to all of the special interests that have their tentacles embedded in every layer of government.

The left vs. right charade must continue; it is at the heart of the State’s Grand Deception. While each side picks and chooses which “liberties” to rhetorically defend, government continues to grow, and liberty at large continues to be lost. When an exception to the rule manages to work it’s way through the cracks, as in the case of Ron Paul, the entire system turns against it for it’s own survival. Only someone that defends both economic and personal liberty could draw the ire of both far right neocon Republicans and far left progressive Democrats at the same time.

Most politicians do not defend both economic and personal liberty because most politicians are not concerned with any liberty. They are actors in mythical tale of The State. The sooner everyone realizes this the sooner we can get to a place where people understand that it is liberty itself which must be defended, and that politicians are the last people we should expect to defend it.

NBC Propaganda, Detroit Bankrupt, Fiscal Cliff & More. Blake & Brian On Top Story Extravaganza

Brian & Blake cover the “Top Story Extravaganza” & discuss such issues as:

NBC doctored George Zimmerman 911 calls to frame him as a racist, & now they are being sued by George Zimmerman.
NBC then allowing Bob Costas to give a gun control rant during a football game.
So what is to be done with the blatant propaganda spewing from NBC & MSNBC?

Why is the department of education removing Catcher In The Rye & replacing it with boring non-creative manuals? Could the goal be to make uncreative, obedient workers?

Will Detroit go bankrupt, & might the Obama administration attempt a city bailout?

& much more!

Jason Whitlock Says, “NRA Is The New KKK”. Brian & Blake Defend The 2nd Amendment.

Fox Sports columnist Jason Whitlock said: “You know, I did not go as far as I’d like to go because my thoughts on the NRA and America’s gun culture, I believe the NRA is the new KKK. And that the arming of so many black youths, and loading up our community with drugs, and then just having an open shooting gallery, is the work of people who obviously don’t have our best interests [at heart].”

Jason’s comments piggyback the similar comments by Bob Costas that are implying that if guns were not available, bad things would not happen & former Chiefs player Jovan Belcher & his girlfriend would still be alive.

Does Bob Costas remember working with O.J. Simpson? Did O.J. kill without a gun? Should knives also be banned.

After the recent car crash where Dallas Cowboy player Josh Brent crashed a car that killed teammate Jerry Brown, should tires, or automobiles be banned, because without tires or cars, the players would still be alive.

Do either of these sports columnists even remember when Washington Redskins player Sean Taylor was shot in the upper leg by an armed intruder at his home & he later died. Could Mr. Taylor have protected his life if he had a gun to defend himself? We’ll never know. But here at The New American Media, we strongly support the right of everybody to defend themselves.
