Post NFL Playoff Preview: Divisional Round

Ok, so there are some good football games to be played this weekend. Let's get right to them, in order of appearance:

1.) Saints vs. 49ers: This is an interesting game for two reasons: The Saints' offense and the 49ers' defense. Both are top-tier squads. Both are capable of taking over a ballgame. They might cancel each other out somewhat. What might be the deciding factor is how good the Saints' D is versus the Niners' offense. Can Alex Smith put together enough big plays to win the game? The fact that he's at home doesn't hurt his chances. Everyone wants to take the Saints, and truth be told, it's hard not to like Drew Brees. I'll say Saints win 21-17 in a close one.

2.) Broncos vs. Patriots: It might be nice for the Patriots to win this one just so we can give Tim Tebow a rest already. The guy is a football player, so let him play football. He has never asked to be the posterboy for Christianity or anything, but he has definitely become a polarizing figure. I figure him to get polarized by a superior team in the Patriots. Maybe Broncos coach John Fox has a few tricks up his sleeve, but I'll bet Belicheck has a few more. We'll say Pats 30-17.

3.) Ravens vs. Texans: Maybe the least glamorous of the four playoff games this weekend, this game promises to be a battle of two hard-nosed defenses. Both quarterbacks have shown the ability to be error-prone, but Flacco clearly has the edge in experience over TJ Yates. Ray Rice and Arian Foster both will put in tremendous efforts for their respective teams, but I see the Ravens coming out on top, 17-10.

4.) Packers vs. Giants: Another very intriguing matchup. Does New York follow the same formula that allowed the Pack to win it all a year ago? They had a lot of injuries, but they're getting healthy at the right time. They have an opportunistic defense and a stud quarterback who can beat teams in a number of ways. I'm expecting the Packers to win, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Giants come out on top. Packers win 35-31.

That's all for now. Go Browns!

Wow! What a start to today's football games. Niners took a quick 17-0 lead, and now the Saints have cut it to 17-14. I think the Saints are gonna win this one, but I'd be o.k. watching the niners win as well. I'll predict a lot of second half scoring, & predict New Orleans 38, San Fran 30.

Broncos Patriots. I'm pulling for Tebow. The Broncos just happen to be attached. I would normally not root for Denver,...what with all the Elway beatings that Kosar's Browns took in the 80's, but I'm predicting, against all better judgment that the Broncos win in overtime again, 21-17. I know Josh McDaniels will help the Patriots this week, but I smell upset.

I can't pick the Ravens. I still think of Art Modell when I think Baltimore. I will root for the Texans who have never won a Super Bowl. I know that Houston can win this, and that's exactly what I'm going to predict. Texans 24, Ravens 13.

I'm pulling for the Pack. I've mentioned that I adopted Green Bay when the Browns were stolen from Cleveland back in the 90's. The city of Green Bay owns the team and will never move them. I love that concept. It's Aaron Rodgers' year, and I think they can repeat. Brandon, I like your score prediction and mine will be similar: Packers 38, Giants 31.

Gotta love the playoffs!

Real quick there Brian, how in God's name (insert Tebow reference here) could the Broncos win by 4 in overtime? That's not necessarily the brainiest prognostication for someone who claims to call himself "the Brain." Maybe they could win the Super Bowl in an overtime blowout too, say 38-10. 🙂

I guess the Broncos could have scored one of those rare "Double Safeties". Or, they could kick an extra point after a field goal.

O.K., B-dubbzzz, time to lay some knowledge on ya.
New overtime rules.
In overtime, first team gets the ball & can either score a touchdown & win, or kick a field goal to extend.
If first team kicks a FG, then second team gets one offensive possession and can score a touchdown & win, or kick a field goal & send the game to double overtime "sudden death."

So,....Broncos & Patriots would be tied 14-14, Brady gets the ball, drive stalls, then Patriots get a FG to make it 17-14 Patriots.
On the Tebow posession, they score a touchdown to win 21-17.

Ohhhhh, Brandon, Brandon, Brandon.

Ya almost got me,....but of course,....they don't call me the BRAIN for nuthin!

Peace!

I see it took you about four days to think about/research that. I'll give this one to you, EXCEPT for the fact that it STILL wouldn't happen because once Denver would score that touchdown to make it a game winning 20-17, they wouldn't kick the extra point because it would be unnecessary. OHHHH BRIAN, BRIAN, BRIAN, I GUESS I DID GET YOU. MAYBE THEY SHOULDN'T CALL YOU THE BRAIN AFTER ALL!!!!!

It appears as though it also took you about 4 days to realize why I said what I said, and you were "saved by the bell" on the technicality of the lack of need to kick the P.A.T. after scoring the game winning TD drive.
P.S. your comment about double safeties & P.A.T.s after a FG was funny.
On to the Super Bowl!
